I've just added this story to Beer Today, with the Portman Group "banning" BrewDog's 18.2% Tokyo* beer from shops, pubs and clubs. And I'm not sure if I'm more offended by the Portman Group as a drinker or a sub-editor! BrewDog beers are very good…

Published today and available to view online here. Do you agree? Which beers would you put in the top 50 - or maybe even take out of this selection?

Has anyone come accross these glasses yet? http://extra.shu.ac.uk/dac/beerglass.pdf On the down side yet more expense initially for the publican but the short and long term benefits appear very positive.

Tough one. Needs research. I would be happy to conduct an experiment for you, if I could force myself to order a half. Don't hold your breath.

Hi Darren, I used to feel the same as you because of those flimsy horrible disposable things you find in beer tents at annual shows etc, but I have used very sturdy, plastic pint glasses on a couple of occasions this past last year and I recall comm…

The Home Office has said today that it is investigating safer ways to drink beer, ie getting rid of the pint glass. But as any beer aficionado will tell you beer only tastes proper out of glass. Plastic, now matter how good it is, just doesn't cut t…

The Home Office wants to phase them out as they cause 87,000 injuries a year. But what's the alternative? I've never had a decent pint out of a plastic glass. The closest to good ones were those at St Austell's last Celtic Beer Festival which were q…

Portman Group v BrewDog ... again!

I've just added this story to Beer Today, with the Portman Group "banning" BrewDog's 18.2% Tokyo* beer from shops, pubs and clubs. And I'm not sure if I'm more offended by the Portman Group as a drinker or a sub-editor!

BrewDog beers are very good beers - they're one of my favourite breweries at the moment, t… Continue

Is this the end for the pint glass?

The Home Office has said today that it is investigating safer ways to drink beer, ie getting rid of the pint glass. But as any beer aficionado will tell you beer only tastes proper out of glass. Plastic, now matter how good it is, just doesn't cut the mustard.

Worringly, Sebastian Conran, who heads the Home Office's wonderfully named Design and Technology Allaince Against Crime, said in The Times: "There are existing plast… Continue

Drinking in Wales - part two

Half an hour after we got off the bus at Tal-y-Bont, and I was struggling up a Brecon Beacon with two bags in summer heat with sweat dripping off me, I started to wonder if my wife, who booked the family room in the Youth Hostel, which was nowhere yet in sight, was trying to redefine the meaning of the word holiday. By the time we’d clocked up an hour of this and the place was just in sight I was wondering if I’d actually live long enough to see another pint.

Fortunately, the worst was over. We… Continue

Drinking in Wales - part one

In Cardiff for three days, and what a city, full of contrasts, derelict sites side by side with shiny 21st century waterfront development. The bay area has been transformed brilliantly thanks to a stunning redevelopment programme.

Among the new buildings is Terra Nova, which from the outside wouldn’t have been my first stop for a beer, but for the Brains logo adorning the cedar facsia. Looked far more bar/restaurant than pub, which indeed is what it turned out to be, however it has been nicely… Continue

I'm keeping busy myself. Mother is on her 3rd pacemaker now and recovering well.
Alan at Coastal had to go to hospital today, but not sure what reason was just yet. I'm brewing on his plant while Keltek sort themselves out. So this could be long term!
Been to Eden festival today running the CAMRA membership stand (and enjoying a few cornish ales too). Will be there Sat/Sun/Mon too. Maybe see some of you there?

I thought Daz was a washing powder. What ABV is it? Glad to hear you survived Welsh Wales. Happy to join your site. Now tell me about all the advantages?
